DFO Fishery Management Area and Subareas

The British Columbia coast is divided into DFO Pacific Fisheries Management Areas (PFMAs). Each PFMA is then divided into a variable number of subareas, delineations originally designed for salmon fishery management. These DFO management areas and subareas are now used to record catch and effort information for numerous fisheries, including shellfish.

The map below shows the PFMAs that comprise the waters around Haida Gwaii/QCI. Areas 1 and 2 are the major inshore PFMAs. Areas 101, 102, 130 and 142 are the major offshore PFMAs. To see a close-up of the management subareas for Haida Gwaii, click on the map below.
